Mold is a fungus that thrives in moist environments. But before it begins to grow it’s a tiny, microscopic particle, called a mold spore that floats through the air awaiting the right environment where it can colonize and grow. Mold spores are a natural part of the air we live and breathe. At this stage, the mold spores do not pose a health risk as they have no way of growing into a harmful type of mold. Water, moisture and damp environments are what mold spores need to grow. Once mold spores find this type of environment, they will multiply and grow until they’ve been properly contained and removed.
So the question arises, what is the difference between Mold Removal and Mold Remediation? It would seem the answer should be a long drawn out explanation with scientific terms and quite the process, however, it is simple. One-hundred percent mold removal, is nearly impossible. For the simple reasoning that mold spores exist in the air and are a natural part of our environment.
Mold remediation on the other hand, is a process of containing mold where it has begun to grow, properly disposing of it and restoring the area back to a safe environment. Part of the mold remediation process is also to figure out where the moisture is that has caused mold to grow to fix it and prevent further mold growth. Remember, mold needs a certain type of environment to grow and without the right environment, it will remain a mold spore particle.
